Crochet Temperature Blanket – January 2020
If you can believe it, before Christmas 2019 I had never heard of a crochet temperature blanket. After all my online exploits I never ran across this popular project even once! Imagine my surprise when my little sister put together the whole project together for me as a Christmas present… I couldn’t believe it! She picked out everything and all that was left was to crochet a row a day for a year. Does a better present exist? Not in my book!

For my first ever crochet temperature blanket, she chose Cloudborn Pima Cotton DK in Pearl, Teal, Caribbean, Tangerine, Pumpkin, Magenta, Fuschia, Coral and Soft Pink. I suspect that she based this on my undying love for any palette involving a vivid shade of hot pink (stinker!). She also got me a gorgeous Furls Odyssey Crochet Hook size G+ (or 4.5mm) in pink and gold. Does she know me or what?
She then pointed me to Wyldflower Crochet’s blog post about temperature blankets. Heather has some amazing stuff on her site and her previous temperature blankets are simply s-t-u-n-n-i-n-g! I really liked that she used the linen stitch – which is just a simple variation on single crochet – for her blanket and decided I’d do the same.
January
The first thing I did this month was sit down to decide on my temperature scale. Living in Florida there is a much smaller range of temperatures than other places I’ve lived (lookin’ at you, northeast Ohio!). Generally it is always over 70 with just a few sparse days in the 50s and 60s. In the five years I’ve lived here I only turned on the heat for two of them! So I started my scale at 64.

Next up I made a chart to track all the temperatures, when I would track them and from where.
Then I wound up all my yarn and got started. I’m a month in so far and wanted to document my progress. It has been fun seeing the chart fill in and rooting for days to be either hotter (or cooler) based on the temperature. I was really surprised when we had several 80 degree days in a row… in January!
